Cpl. Cates grew up in Kennebunkport, ME. Her father’s participation in Vietnam encouraged her to enter the military for herself. Not expecting a great adventure to Berlin as she traveled on the duty train, she got one when the train derailed in the middle of East Germany.

The role of Sharon is a physically demanding one, yet requires a quiet vulnerability. If I could cast the movie, I’d cast actress Clare Danes in the role. She’s young athletic looking, and can give Sharon that quiet vulnerability required.
